Statement of Aims:
What we aim to do:
provide education and information about the honey bee, Apis Melifera, and related topics, including their environmental and economic significance .
hold courses to enable those who wish to learn about beekeeping to do so.
provide an association apiary so beginners can keep bees in a supported environment, and so those who are not able to keep bees elsewhere have a place to do so
meet on a regular basis in a sociable environment to encourage attendance.
provide equipment on loan to members so that they do not have to purchase large, expensive items, such as a honey extractor
run an “adopt a hive” scheme which is open to those who have undertaken training on our beginners course, so that they are able to experience beekeeping without the capital cost of hive acquisition in their first year.
participate in the regional, national, and international beekeeping scene, through our membership of the BBKA.
have available, basic sundries available for sale to members.
be inclusive of all regardless of race or creed.
provide relevant information to members, via publication s newsletters, email, a website, and otherwise.
make available where possible to those who want to receive it, BeeCraft, Beekeepers Quarterly, and other magazines and periodicals
provide information about the preparation, packaging, labelling, marketing of honey and other hive products and by-products
advise members on how to sell honey and other hive products either direct to the public or via a retailer
operate a library of beekeeping books, publications videos, dvds etc., for the benefit of our members.
Publish a list of suitably qualified members who are willing and able to collect swarms, and distribute this to local authorities, the police, and others as appropriate
